We work with Securly, our internet filter provider, to ensure that all our devices are filtered.  All student devices are filtered 24/7 whether they are in school or at home.  You receive a weekly email from Securly with a report of your child’s browsing and search history in it.  We block the following categories below, but with 2 billion websites, there is no “perfect” filter:

Pornography

Drugs

Gambling

Other Adult Content

Adult material such as profanity, gruesome content, and violence.

Social Media

Anonymous Proxies

Chat/Messaging

Hate

Other Search Engines (No Safe Search)

Social Networking

Streaming Media

Games

YouTube is the largest provider of educational content.  There are various educational content providers that use the YouTube platform to host their videos.  Also, the district subscribes to content that is hosted on YouTube, and some of our teachers' host content they created on the YouTube platform. 

We force youtube.com in restricted mode.  Restricted Mode screens out potentially mature content that we do not want students to view.  In addition, our teachers approve and curate youtube videos to embed in their instructional materials. Also, we force all search engines to be in safe search mode, which filters out questionable sites and images. If you find specific sites or videos that are questionable on your child’s device, let us know.  

Restricted mode ensures that the video categories below are not accessible to students :

Drugs and alcohol: Talking about drug use or abuse, or drinking alcohol in videos.
Sexual situations: Overly detailed conversations about or depictions of sex or sexual activity. Some educational, straightforward content about sexual education, affection, or identity may be included in Restricted Mode, as well as kissing or affection that's not overly sexualized or the focal point of the video. 
Violence: Graphic descriptions of violence, violent acts, natural disasters and tragedies, or even violence in the news.
Mature subjects: Videos that cover specific details about events related to terrorism, war, crime, and political conflicts that resulted in death or serious injury, even if no graphic imagery is shown.
Profane and mature language: Inappropriate language, including profanity.
Incendiary and demeaning content: Video content that is gratuitously incendiary, inflammatory, or demeaning towards an individual or group. 

YouTube videos that students have access to are teacher-approved videos and channels, teacher uploaded videos, content from various educational content providers, and videos that Google does not include in any of the above categories.  Google controls the categorization of videos in restricted mode.
