Upgrade macOS using Self Service

Certain major versions of macOS will be made available by the Technology Department in Self Service for upgrade in addition to the normal Software Update workflows built into macOS. Using Self Service to complete an upgrade to macOS can take up to 45 minutes. Follow the directions below to complete the upgrade process.

 

1. Close any open applications, save important work, and connect your Mac to power. 

 

2. Open Self Service by choosing the icon on your dock. If you do not see the icon on your dock, open Finder. Navigate to Applications in the left sidebar, and then choose Self Service.

 

 

3. In Self Service, click Upgrade under Upgrade macOS.

 

4. You will be taken to the upgrade details screen. Review the on-screen information and then click Upgrade again.

 

 

5. You may be prompted to enter your username and password to start the upgrade. If prompted, please enter your username and password and press Continue.

 

 

6. The upgrade process will now begin. You will not be able to use your computer until the process is complete.

7. When the upgrade process is finished. Your computer will restart.

8. To fully complete the upgrade process, your computer may restart multiple time. Please wait until the login screen appears before continuing.  After your computer returns to the login screen, enter your username and password to return to your desktop.

 

9. This completes the upgrade process.
