Kami is the recommended note-taking app / website for Chromebooks. It allows you to annotate PDFs and it automatically saves everything to Google Drive. You can easily open it by clicking the Kami icon in the top right of Google Chrome, or by going to https://web.kamihq.com/web/viewer.html.

You may need to sign in with Google using your district email.

Opening documents

Once you sign in, you will see the following screen:

The panel on the left allows you to open notes from Google Drive and your computer (if you downloaded a PDF, for instance). You can also click "Blank page" to create a new document. The panel on the right displays all recently opened notes, which you can click on to easily open.

Sometimes, when you open a file from Google Drive it may ask you for authorization. This is normal, just sign in with your district email!

Editing

Once you open a PDF, it will look similar to this:

I highly recommend browsing the Using Kami section of Kami's knowledge base. It contains up-to-date information on how to use Kami, and will teach you some tricks along the way!

Saving

You should save all of your notes to Google Drive. By default, Kami saves everything to a "Kami Uploads" folder that it creates. I recommend creating folders within "Kami Uploads" for each of your classes, for better organization.

To ensure that your note is saved, click the file icon in the top right then "Save changes to Drive". You should make a habit of always saving before you close Kami. The last thing you want to happen is for your work to be lost!

Submitting to Canvas

You'll often find yourself opening an assignment in Kami, finishing it, then submitting it to Canvas. While there are many methods to do this, I find it easiest to go through Google Drive.

1. Save the assignment in Kami. Make sure it's uploaded to Google Drive in a folder that you can find (this may help you).

2. Open the assignment in Canvas, click the red "Submit Assignment" button, then click the "Google Drive" tab. You may need to click "AUTHORIZE" and sign in with your district email.

3. After you authorize, you will see the Google Drive file picker. Navigate to the note that you want to submit, click it, then press "Select".

4. Next, click "Submit".

5. Finally, click "Submit Assignment".

6. You're good to go!

Exporting a PDF

If you just need to download a Kami note as a PDF, you can easily click the download icon in the top right corner of the screen then "Quick download".
