Introduction

Did you know that you can record your screen using the built-in features of your Chromebook? Here's how to do it:

Recording Your Screen Without Audio

To simply record your screen without any audio or voiceovers, do the following:

1. Click/tap on the time in the bottom right corner of your screen.

2. Click/tap on Screen capture. Note: This menu is also how you can take screenshots!

3. Click/tap on the right video camera icon, then click/tap the left button that resembles a border in order to record your entire screen.

4. Click/tap anywhere on your screen to start recording.

5. To stop the recording, click/tap on the red stop button on the bottom taskbar of your screen.

6. To see your recording, click/tap on the notification that will appear upon stopping the recording. You can find the saved recording in your Downloads folder by default.

Recording Your Screen With Voiceover and/or Your Webcam

To add a voiceover and/or your webcam to your recording, make sure that you do the following prior to starting the recording:

1. Follow steps 1-3 from the above section, but before clicking/tapping on your screen to start the recording, click/tap on the gear icon to the left of the x.

2a. Under the Audio Input section of the menu (refer to the above screenshot), you can choose from the following settings:

    - Off - no sound will be recorded.

    - Device audio - only sound that would play through your Chromebook's speakers (imagine watching a YouTube video or listening to a song) will be recorded.

    - Microphone - only your microphone will be recorded.

    - Device audio and microphone - both any sound that would play through your Chromebook's speakers as well as your microphone will be recorded.

2b. Under the Camera section of the menu (refer to the above screenshot), you can choose from the following settings:

    - Off - your camera will not be recorded.

    - Front Camera - your front-facing camera (the camera facing you at the top of your screen) will be recorded.

    - Back Camera - your rear-facing camera (the camera at the top of your keyboard) will be recorded.

Note: your camera will appear in one of the bottom corners of the screen while recording. You can click/tap and drag the camera's circle to move it. If you tap the circle, you can also expand or minimize it.

3. Continue with steps 4 - 6 from the above section to continue your recording.

Note: If you have your options set to record your camera but NOT your microphone, your camera will be recorded, but your voice will NOT be.

Additional Options

You can also choose some additional options from the settings menu discussed in section 2. Refer to the screenshot in that section.

    - Show clicks and keys when toggled on will create a 'ripple' effect around your mouse cursor whenever you click the mouse button.

    - Save to allow you to choose a different folder to save your recordings to.
